In the world of football, in the world of calcio, soccer, the big, the major leagues, Europe, Seriat, La Liga, Premier League, they all kicked off, man. We saw some what we like to call in our in our segment here, we came up with the winners and losers of each weekend of each round in every single league. Okay. And I think there are some shocking results, some that we probably expected, right? Some teams went out, did what they were supposed to do, as everyone would have thought. Other teams, maybe not so much. And also in Germany, there was the German cup final. We saw Dortmund versus Bayern. We're gonna go over that. Manuel Neuer, big achievement in that game, which we will go over at the end of this episode. But first, I wanted to start with the Premier League Marco, the English Premier League touted as probably the most competitive league in the world, up for debate, maybe not so much. I don't know. I'm not an expert, but Who would you say was the biggest winner of this weekend's games? Biggest loser? Biggest shock. What would you say?

Marco: EPL number one league number one league.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Marco: You it's physical, it's fast, the conditions are always up and down. You got some of the best players going over there. So anybody can win at any weekend and this weekend that opened up week one showed it. biggest winner and biggest loser. For me, the biggest loser is gonna be my team, Manchester

Marco: The Red Devils who are still in rebuild mode, who brought back Roshbird and he was on the bench, who are still looking for an identity in the midfield. They don't have a lot of stuff going. to last week I was talking about this team potentially being a top four. Who knows? Four, five, six. I have no idea, right? But I

Marco: but what I did say is transfer window and whatever the case may be. We need midfielder. We need a striker. I w I would like to see Mboumo, boom. up front as a number nine, false number nine at a times. The guy has pace on him. He can fucking score. That

Marco: they they're my biggest loser of the week because they lost. But I am gonna say this. If you go back to last season, there was eight games against bottom of the table teams.

Marco: They lost six of them and tied two, I believe, or one two. So

Marco: I expected that, right? It makes sense when they lost. Pool City, newly promoted team are coming

Marco: in dunce blazing. they have something to prove. They want to stay up top. So what I'm gonna say is my biggest loser of the week for in the Premier League was Manchester United. my biggest winner, the ones who opened it up, Arsenal, bro. I think they are gonna go back to back. They have the most consistency. they look good. They they play

Marco: good most importantly. And as I mentioned, you got Manchester United looking for the identity, right?

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: You got you got Man City, and I'm going to rant right now. Man City, who lost arguably the best player on the planet right now, Rodri.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: They lost their coach. Right? You have Chelsea who's going through some I don't know what they're going through. I think Enzo would take it out the spotlight and getting whistled and getting booed. because of his antics or maybe because he's may go to Man City. I don't know. Right?

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, a lot of rumors.

Marco: Yep. And then you you got Liverpool who's able to get by with it with a point this past weekend. So I don't know. My biggest winner is Arsenal. the Gunners, I think they're gonna shoot their way to a another another trophy this season.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, and it's almost like you're reading my notes here because I have the same exact Arsenal as my winners, Man United as my losers of the weekend, whole city newly promoted, as you mentioned, right? there was a there's a huge performance by their goalkeeper. Solakis the Greek goalkeeper, particularly impressive in this game. But for Man United, it's not like it was just a loss, right? Where they played a good game and they were just outplayed or Or beaten or you know what I mean? It was more so the fact that they actually just didn't play good. Their a attack did not look good. They have players and they have a squad where they should be going, you know, and playing against a team like Hole City, their first game back in the Premier League. And it's one of those one of those games where it's like Man United needs to make a statement. It's the opening game of the season, you have probably one of the best scenarios, best teams you could want to play against for an opening game. You need to go out there, you need to put your foot in the ground and get shit done, right? And it didn't, it just did not look convincing at all. Obviously, Marcus Rashford's back. They have a lot, they have so many good players on that team. And it makes you think now, you know, which we'll touch on AC Milan, Amorim the coach, Mourinho was the coach.

Marco: Yeah.

Project 90 Soccer: All these guys were the coaches, and we're always criticizing the fact that they just run through coaches all the time. Or we run or we criticize the coach himself. But it's starting to look at you start to see these results. with all these same all these great coaches and they're all terrible. They're all losing. They can't seem to put a team together that goes and gets winning results. So there's something going on at Man United, which we've been hearing for years now by ex players, current players, current staff. And I you know, it sucks to see they're one of the biggest clubs in the world. You just want them to figure it out. So that's all I really have there. But yeah.

Marco: What I what I will say, what I will say is look, they lost. They need to get their they need to build their end game because they're gonna play Itch Bitch Itchwitch Town. Well however you say it. they're gonna play

I'm here I've been hearing, the Manchester United from 15 years ago. I'm like, that's 15 years ago. This is Manchester United from today. Right?

Marco: Michael Carrick. The winning as coach for the time that he spent with Man Yu when he came over last last season on his on his on his second stint got results. Right?

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: So you gotta give it some time. He's not the type of he's not the type of manager who's gonna panic, get mad. be controversial in the media. If you look at him when you're watching the game, just like he was when he was a player, he's calm. You're not going to see too much. You're just going to see what you're seeing at the moment. So for my Red Devils, Mansion United fans, don't hit the panic button. It's a long season. We're going to go week by week and we're going to continue to break it down for y'all. And when it starts getting bad, I'm going to let y'all know, all right guys, it's time to hit that button.

And and a lot of the time when a bigger team like this loses to a smaller team, the criticism sort of or or the the feedback after the game usually comes from, you know, kind of talking down on that bigger team that lost, in this case, Man United, as opposed to maybe just giving credit to whole city for going in there and just

Project 90 Soccer: get getting that shit done. They were just a good fucking team that day. They won, they beat a good team, and they got three points to open their season. So Plenty of time left for them to turn it around, but in terms of turning it around and starting strong Arsenal, like you said, the winner of the weekend, three to zero versus Coventry City. And look, they had all the players that you want to step up, stepped up. Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Odegaard. And in terms of an individual player who really kind of showed out was Christos Solis, their new winger, the another Greek player, right? Coming in, making a real good debut for himself in the Premier League with Arsenal. So, you know, Arsenal, they they just won, they beat Man City 3-0, you know, last last the community shield. Now they're starting off their season right here with 3-0. They got Bruno Guimaris also on the team. Looks like they're just building into this season and trying to be stronger and even better than they were last season. So we'll see how it goes. Again, first game of the season, another notable Game and mention would be Newcastle two to two. We saw Alexa Alexander Isaac, used to play with Newcastle, now a Liverpool player, went into Newcastle, got booed probably all day long. You know what I mean? So it was a little bit of a rough debut for him there. you know, Dominic Sobasly, of course, one of their good players, one of their best players, Brighton, four-zero against Aston Villa. Aston Villa, that's kind of a shocking result for them, right? Everyone's talking about how good they've been in recent times. Muni Emery's got something to sort of think about there. Man City, two to one versus Bournemouth,

Project 90 Soccer: really getting their shit to saved by Yasko Vardial and Mark Gahey, right? Which is ironic, both defenders, right? one zero down, coming back for the two one win. Tottenham three to zero, right? Same, same Tottenham, just new season type thing.

Project 90 Soccer: I don't know what's going to happen there. Obviously, we saw Spence go over to inter Milan. Yo.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, so they they've lost some pretty big players. They obviously they brought in Sandro Tanali, but I I just think Tottenham's in a rebuilding phase. I think their goal for this season's mid table, right? I think that would be a good season

Project 90 Soccer: for them. Maybe, of course. And ultimately just not getting relegated. speaking of Spence, though, going into Milan, Seriah. Biggest winner, biggest loser. Do you have anyone in mind?

Marco: Nothing crazy. I mean, the biggest winner, I mentioned it last week. I think Inter Milan is gonna go back to back for with the Scudetto.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: you know what? Yeah, I do have the biggest loser

Marco: or the loser of the the weekend.

Marco: I'm gonna go with Genoa. Genoa

Marco: basically has the same squad from last year. Starting 11, basically the same. Outside of the defense. I'd scrap that team.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Two zero to Napoli. Yeah, I've seen it.

Marco: They they need to pour some money into these transactions. They need to

Marco: get some players. It doesn't have the biggest have to be you the biggest names. You can find good guys. You just gotta spend

Marco: you just gotta spend a little bit of extra money. but yeah, man, Genoa did not look good. They were making a lot of mistakes in the defense. At times they were caught off just just ball watching or out of position. it just didn't look good.

Project 90 Soccer: No, did not. And obviously, like we were saying already, Napoli's a good team, to be fair, right? Kevin Du Bruyna, they have Scott McTominay's been on fire. They have a solid team, but Genoa, it's not the start they're looking for, obviously. Dedrossi, right? Coach

Marco: Yep.

Project 90 Soccer: of Genoa, so I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of talk there on what they could be doing. But inter Milan, like you'd mentioned earlier, four to one is similar to you know, an Arsenal situation winning last year. Coming in, Shalonagli scored a fucking banger, just a an absolute

Marco: dude, that was fire.

Project 90 Soccer: yeah, an absolute missile, right? And then you see the young Italian P.O. Esposito getting on there. And it's just good. It's good all around for Inter Milan because, you know, they've been they've been sort of wrestling, not so much with dominating the Ceti A as much as trying to advance and win the Champions League. So I think getting them Getting this win early on, big four one win versus Monza is gonna be a good confidence booster now rolling into the season as Champions League now is gonna be starting relatively soon, right? So

Marco: just I just hope the CIA it just doesn't get boring. Right.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: Because of the of what we're starting to see. And you never want to see at least not in my opinion, I don't want to see a dominant team just winning and winning because for the longest I don't even I wouldn't even look at the Bundesliga because it was always Bayern Munich.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah, I see what you mean.

Marco: You know, so I don't want it to get that to that point and it's potentially gained to that point.

Project 90 Soccer: I know, it's just that that team, like there's Juva's kind of falling off, Roma is kinda falling like these teams are not I mean, there's a point in SETIA in the early two thousands when I recall watching and and even nowadays when you look back that there were like seven or eight teams that were literally in contention for SETIA. Like they th these games were massive. All these games between Fiorentina, Lazio, Rome, Uve In Termila and I these teams were fucking stacked. You know what I'm saying?

Marco: There was also a lot of more money back then.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, no, it was it was the league, right? Everybody wanted to be in that league, everyone wanted to invest in that league. That's the league that you wanted to go to to play in. And nowadays it's definitely not like that, right? We see La Liga spending big money, we see the EPL obviously is just massive. PSG, for instance, has a lot of pools, some of the big names. not necessarily the French league, I guess, but just PSG themselves. So yeah, CEDIA, you just want to see it be very competitive. You wanna see an exciting season. I was mentioning how Como I think it's gonna be a dark horse. They got a one one draw early on. Juventus got a one zero. And my loser for the weekend, I'll just say outfl like flat out is Juventus, right? One zero versus Frozinone, which is still a win. They had good possession, but the thing is, man, for a team like Juve, you need to be you need to be like pulling an Arsenal or pulling an intra Milan against a team like Frozinone. You need to go out there and just fucking three goals, four goals. You need to win these games with conviction. And I think when Antonio Gante was coaching, play people like that were coaching the the Juventus in particular, they were never satisfied one zero, two zero. They they'd go into the locker room at two or three zero and they'd be barking at their players, like, we gotta we gotta absolutely destroy this team now. Like this is not where we start. We don't hold this result. We keep going out and we keep it's like that Cristiano Ronaldo mentality, that elite mentality of like do not take your foot

Project 90 Soccer: Off the gas. So for me, Juventus, yeah, they won, but sort of the the loser of the weekend, given their status as you know, arguably Italy's biggest club, right?

Project 90 Soccer: So moving on here, that's Sedia La Liga, Barcelona, five to zero Elche, Real Madrid. We saw get a win as well. sort of last minute, kind of sketchy, Atletico Madrid 2 2 via Real. What are your thoughts on La Liga? Who's your winner of the weekend and call him the loser of the weekend?

Marco: Expected those three points for Barcelona, for Real Madrid. Real Madrid looks like there's still a little bit of arguing going on on the field. I

Marco: from from what I saw with Arja Goulaire, right? Mourinho's trying to play him on the right side, but he's been playing with with Los Blancos in the middle quite a bit. So it's an adjustment. So I can kind of see the frustration Mbappe what's was was seen and was having because they're accustomed to one thing, but to what we said a couple weeks back, Mourinho's gonna make things stick. And

Marco: if he sees that you're not doing what his vision wants, you're gonna find yourself on the bench. I mean he did it with

Marco: caught my eye. but those results as expected. I don't know if you saw how much of Julian Alvarez getting booed, which

Marco: which I mean, if you want to call that the loser of the week, then that's the loser of the week because one, he was getting booed. Two, he didn't even go meet the fans after afterwards, and Simeone was saying, Hey, that was a group decision from the the the the higher ups here on the team, right? That wasn't his decision. Marco: can that could be him protecting the player. And as a good manager, you w you want to protect your player, right?

Marco: But more and more, it seems like Julian Alvarez is on his way out of Atletico.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, man, and and you you think of it's it's all you can call it business, right? Between the major clubs. I I don't know if there's if there's really bad blood between the team itself with Julian Alvarez or the coach with Julian Alvarez necessarily. It'd be more of the fan base feeling like they're getting betrayed. I think most of the players and the coaches understand that this is just a move to Barcelona essentially would be for Julian. I mean, it's it's a big step in your own personal career. They all understand that. He served Atletico Madrid. He did what he had to do. And now this sort of deal has been on the table. You can't really blame Alvarez. You know, but you know how these fans are. In these European leagues, they are fucking ruthless. If you're on their team and you have even a hint of being linked somewhere else, they pretty much say, There's the fucking door. Get out. Like we don't want you here. We want loyal ass players. So yeah, two two draw though for Atletico. That's kind of I don't know. It's a good result, but I think they could have probably got a win. Go ahead.

Marco: And to tie the tie tie bow on it, frate, this happens all the time in La Liga from the were from the from R9, from Barcelona to Real Madrid, Figal, big old controversial, right?

I just want to throw in for La Liga real quick that I'm gonna have to say that I do have a a a loser of the weekend. Real Madrid, man, look, they won the game. I get it. Did not dominate, did not play convincing, did not win in the way that Real Madrid should be winning, knowing their status as one of the most elite clubs in the world. Mourinho's standards. The players themselves standards, the world class, everything that they have at Real Madrid. I think they're the biggest loser only because they are not playing up to their potential. That may be a conversation for another day, right? Obviously, first game of the season, new coach, some new players in there. I'm sure Mourinho's gonna sort it out. I'm sure he's still trying to, you know, dial it in a little bit, right? To find the team that works, the system that works. So I don't expect this to continue on for Real Madrid, but in terms of this weekend I'd have to say that that was a sort of a how do you say it's not their best performance, put it that way.

Marco: And I mean Kukuraya coming off the bench. honestly thought

Marco: especially especially with the showing and the strong showings that he did in in the World Cup. So I don't know,

Borussia Dortman losing to Bayern Munich, two to one in the German Super Cup. And in this game, we saw a damn near 40-year-old Manuel Neuer win his 36th trophy, bro. He's the most decorated German player of all time, surpassing Thomas Mueller, who had 35. And you know, Bayern Munich aside, Bruce Dortman aside, Jermaine Neuer himself, legendary career. This dude has been at the top for a minute. He's been Germany's number one. He has been so good for Germany, bro. He has sat other number ones, Terstegen, all these guys that have

And of course when you throw in a guy like Harry Kane to work with and some of these other supporting the supporting cast around Bayern, I think they they're just a little too much. And as the season starts, you sort of you can see whether or not Dortmund or another team is going to challenge. but until we get a little more into the season, it's gonna be hard to say that anyone other than Bayern Munich is probably gonna just win another. Marco: And dude, right now when you mention that about Neuer and Benchin all these guys, it's one of those

Marco: things where it's one of those things where these goalies born in another era, they would have

Marco: been they would have been the dominant guy for for Germany or for at least ten years for Germany. So that happens
