Another LOSS! Mexico Falls 2-0 To Chile Ending Winless After Four Games! What's Wrong With El Tri?

Mexico just went from World Cup buzz to full-blown crisis, and Antonio and Marco are not holding back. After a 2-0 loss to Chile, they break down why this four-game stretch has been a disaster, what keeps going wrong on the field, and whether Rafa Márquez is already under serious pressure to fix it.

Antonio and Marco rip into the lack of chemistry, the defensive mistakes, and the flat performances that left Mexico scoreless in the wrong moments and exposed in the biggest ones. Marco is especially fired up, calling out the team’s body language, the costly errors, and the ongoing problem of expecting results without real execution. Antonio pushes the conversation deeper, pointing out that the excuses about youth, friendlies, and lineup changes do not erase the fact that Mexico still needs to win games like this.

You'll hear them tackle:

  • Why Mexico’s recent friendlies feel like a warning sign, not harmless tune-ups
  • The defensive breakdowns that handed Chile the result
  • Whether young players like Gil Mora, Obed Vargas, and Padilla actually give Mexico a path forward
  • Why the attack still lacks a true creator behind the striker
  • How Rafa Márquez, Andrés Guardado, and the federation may need to rethink the entire direction

Marco: every time a new coach gets the national squad, they have a tough stretch.

Project 90 Soccer: they had four games to get something going, and I saw nothing.

Marco: there was a positive. Padilla potentially can get the number one spot.

Project 90 Soccer: If you're gonna go out there with the mentality of, well, it's just a friendly game, so who really cares? I think that's a shit mentality to have. You should expect to want to win every single game.

Marco: at this point I was a Cowboys fan. I was talking to the television.

Project 90 Soccer: Welcome to the Project 90 Soccer Podcast. My name is Antonio, and I'm here as always with the fly as ever, Marco Antonio Munoz. Marco, we just witnessed man, we just witnessed Mexico go down two to zero and lose to Chile, man. And I'm not even gonna waste any time right now. I'm just gonna dish it straight over to you, my chief executive, when it comes to the Mexican national team. And I'm gonna ask you straight up, point blank, what is going on with Mexico, man?

Marco: Lecanto. Last podcast, Mexico had me upset. I started diving into the tequila. I was having a good time. Ended up having a great time on the podcast. I was redundant with the things that I was saying. So today I'm a slow down and I'm

Project 90 Soccer: Mm.

Marco: gonna only do one tequila going into this podcast with

Project 90 Soccer: I love it.

Marco: the shot glass, Club Leon. The

Project 90 Soccer: Mm.

Marco: the the team that holds my heart. Give me a second, hold up.

Project 90 Soccer: this man is a legend. Guys, leave a comment. Show some love to Mark. This guy's a legend. Woo!

Marco: La selection mexicana is a fucking disaster.

Project 90 Soccer: Ho ho, get into it man.

Marco: This four game stretch, a disaster. You couldn't get my boy Rafa one win. Not one win.

Project 90 Soccer: Mm.

Marco: Not only did you not hold any clean sheets, you got scored seven times.

Project 90 Soccer: Mm.

Marco: Twice by Chile. well, I'm gonna do it in Italian. Do it by Chile.

Project 90 Soccer: Okay.

Marco: Tree by USE.

Project 90 Soccer: Yes.

Marco: Uno by Peru. Uno, my Colombia.

Project 90 Soccer: Correcto.

Marco: Antop.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, man. I know.

Marco: Significant, I get it. They called up a lot of young guys. I get it. A

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm.

Marco: lot of Liga Mekis guys. Some of the other guys that were at the World Cup, Kinones, Montes, all these other guys, they stayed overseas, but they called a significant amount of guys from that were in the World Cup, whether they were bench guys or whatever the case may be. Anto, every game was a disaster. Every game they couldn't get the ball going. Every game the defense was a mess.

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm.

Marco: Every game, like you went into it like not having any confidence whatsoever. I don't know what's

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: going on in the locker room. I don't know what's going on in in in practice. I don't know if it's the because this happens on top with every time I was talking to Pops, every time a new coach gets his gets the national squad, they have a tough stretch. I happened to Lozano, and now it's happening to Rafa Marquez. Four

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: games, no wins. And nothing positive that I'm taking away outside of nothing. Nothing positive I'm tossing.

Project 90 Soccer: Outside of outside of of Hilmora getting a goal.

Marco: And that's even a negative because he got he got injured. But like I said but like I

Project 90 Soccer: He did, yeah. And it's terrible, man. Yeah.

Marco: said last game, you can't rely on one guy. Antho at the start the

Project 90 Soccer: No. No, no. And that's what I wanna I wanna look. Even if Gilmora and Lozano and they were available and say Raul Jimenez was in the team. look, Mexico just did not. they had four games to get something going, and I saw nothing. man. But take it away. I know you you're on you're on a roll right now. Mm-hmm.

Marco: Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. I don't know, Anto. I mean Pioco trying to try to get some stuff going in the first half. Fidalgo was doing a little bit too much at times. They called him the they called him Mago with America, which is the magician. Like, bro, like you're doing a they're you're doing a couple two a couple of different things, bro. Like it was one extra touch. I have no idea what you got called. I like you. Cool guy, but stay at inner Miami.

Project 90 Soccer: I liked Obed vodgas in there starting.

Marco: I I liked it, but he also was he just wasn't in sync. I'm gonna just put it that way. Right?

Project 90 Soccer: No, okay, that's fair.

Marco: Look, I'm not gonna shit on all these guys because I mean I just don't want to. I don't have the energy for it. It just when they scored that first goal, as a defensive mistake. When they scored the second goal. Another mistake and who makes a mistake? Jorge Sanchez who I've been saying stop calling him.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah, man. I know. I know. And it it happened

Marco: I thought what ten minutes left.

Project 90 Soccer: quick. Yeah.

Marco: What ten minutes yeah, as soon as they made those five subs, it happened quick.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, it did.

Marco: Jorge Sanchez. Bro, go back to Liga Mickeys.

Project 90 Soccer: Tell him.

Marco: I was I was talking to Pops and like Pops, I love you. I'm out. I'm not gonna watch these last ten minutes. I just I just couldn't I I just

Project 90 Soccer: Now only

Marco: couldn't stomach it. You know what he says? He's like he's like, Miko, if they couldn't score in eighty minutes, what do you think they're gonna score in ten? See you tomorrow.

Project 90 Soccer: See you tomorrow. I'm out. Yeah.

Marco: Bro, I came home, saw my dogs, instantly started instantly trying to forget about the Selección Mexicana, and then I got the notification that I have to do a podcast. So now I'm back thinking about the Selección Mexicana, who was an embarrassment this four game stretch. I'm sorry, but such a drop in in in level, such a drop in in the way they were playing from the World Cup. I get it, different guys, but you can't drop that that that low. Chile was about to fire their coach after this game. And with this win over the Selection Mexicana, shout out to him because now he's gonna prolong his stay with Chile because they got a lot of positives. They beat a top team.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah. For Chile, I mean, tonight was a beautiful beautiful night for them. I mean

Marco: Anto, they were playing with guys that plays with pizza in the s city of B.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, I know. No, I know. Believe me, this is not and this is for Chile, this is not the strongest Chile we've seen by any means at all. It's not the days of our Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez. Like this is a different Chile. And they went in there at what? It was a USC Stadium, man. And they're walking out of there with their heads high, their chests out, two zero against Mexico, man.

Marco: And shout out shout out to all the fans that that came

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: out and support me and me and Pows were talking about that. Shout out to them. Shout out to all the MILFs, all the young ladies that were out there.

Project 90 Soccer: They're everywhere, man.

Marco: Cause through the NM made it a point to show all those breasts all over the television. Blowing blowing

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: kisses at everybody. I was like, I was trying to catch them. I don't you know what? I'm so mad.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah.

Marco: I'm so mad. I'm gonna throw my shoes across the room. You know what I mean? I'm just I just don't I just don't even

Project 90 Soccer: my gosh. So not even w Go get the chanclas.

Marco: It took me one my shoes on. That's how upset I am.

Project 90 Soccer: Holy smokes, this guy's gonna lose his mind tonight, guys. Marco,

Marco: Anton.

Project 90 Soccer: Marco, I know you are look, and shout out to all the Mexican fans that despite look, I know that you're frustrated. Look, I'm an Italian fan, believe me, we've had our fair share of frustrations. But you know what, man? You guys are diehard. You guys, you guys stand behind your team no matter what. The passion is there. That's where this anger comes from. This is passion. But I have to be honest, man. Rafa Marquez is in deep shit, I think, right now. He's probably feeling the pressure. He's trying to play it cool. And to be honest, man, he's got a lot of shit going on to where he doesn't need to be playing it cool. He needs to really be getting his shit together, get Mexico back on track, bro. And it just came to mind, man, during this game, Lopez. I don't know what your take is on this, but this is one lucky man to, yeah, he was getting pushed a little bit, of course. You're you have a free kick though, that's a cross. What typically happens is people body each other up, man. That's what happens. If you're gonna turn around and smack a guy in the face, I mean, what a lucky guy to just be on the field. And you know, we saw that with Mateo Chavez last

Marco: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Project 90 Soccer: game. He lashed out, he got to his head today. I mean, if you ask me, that was arguably, I guess, a red card, right? And they're let they're letting

Marco: Should have. Should've.

Project 90 Soccer: it get to their head, man. And instead of just getting in there focusing on the fact that we need to get a result, we need to play this game, we need to get we need to focus, man. We need to come in here and try to win. They just went four

Marco: And

Project 90 Soccer: games, Marco. Four games with zero

Marco: And the

Project 90 Soccer: positive results.

Marco: the the ironic part of things is Santi went in there trying to act tough. I was I was talk at this point I was a Cowboys fan. I was talking to the television. I'm like, Santi, shut the F up. You have no place

Project 90 Soccer: man.

Marco: to be saying anything. You need to score a goal.

Project 90 Soccer: I know. And that shot he took, I mean, just forget about it, man. Look, I I just they're they're they're

Marco: Let

Project 90 Soccer: not they're not firing on any cylinder at all, let alone all cylinders.

Marco: Look, I'm glad this the I'm glad none of these games meant anything, right? But it still leaves a sour taste in your mouth the way they performed. the new era began and the new era began on the wrong foot.

Project 90 Soccer: Uh-huh.

Marco: to your point, Rafa Rafa Marquez Andrés Guardado and the s and the sporting director for the s for the Federation. We're gonna have a long meeting either tomorrow or these coming days on what went wrong What are the takeaways? Who for sure is not getting called back? This experiment about calling the young guys from Chivas. There's a lot of Chivas and America guys, Violantes, Sandoval, Campillo, a lot of guys. We have some guy from Toluca today. Rightfully so, you guys got your chance. And n unlike the USA, they didn't capitalize on it. And before all my YouTube and TikTokers tell me chillax, you can't chillax. You can't lose games like this. You can't lose games to a lower tier with all due respect. Chile, who's not at their best. You can't tie with Peru with all due respect. Lower tier, they're not at their best. And with all due respect, Mexico is lower tier right now the way they're playing. So I was just talking to Pops. I'm like, USA right now owns is gonna own the Conca Caf for the foreseeable future if Mexico does not get their shit together. What is USA got going for Defenders. What is USA got going for him? The midfielder. What does USA got going for him? The attack. What is USA got going for him? The young talent coming up in the ranks. Mexico

Project 90 Soccer: Yep.

Marco: kept talking about Gil Mora or Beth Vargas going into the World Cup. And that's it. What

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: else? What else do we got going on? What else can we say we can bank on going into these next coming games? So you telling me as a Mexican fan, I'm supposed to expect Mexico to continue to call Kinones from Saudi Arabia, take that flight all the way over. I get it, they get paid millions. I get it. Am I expected to always see the A team? I can't rely on the B squad make given a good performance.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah.

Marco: Anto right now Mexico needs to get their shit together. I get it. I'm gonna get crucified for this. It's only four games. It's international games or friendlies. You're supposed to call out the you guys the young guys. But you were supposed to beat Peru, you were supposed to beat Chile. USA, like I mentioned, if you lost, you lost. Colombia,

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. It's a tough one, regardless. Yeah.

Marco: if you lost, you lost. They got guys on the role stage. But Peru and Chile, you couldn't you couldn't tell me you couldn't get doves out of those games?

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah, man. Look,

Marco: É bom.

Project 90 Soccer: they're friendlies too. And a lot of people I've been seeing some comments as well, or it's well, they're just friendly games. That's what they're for, you know, trying and it's like with a mentality like that, that that is the wrong mentality. I don't care who you put on the field. You're Mexico, you're whoever you are. It doesn't matter if it's a friendly, doesn't matter if it's a a group stage game, it doesn't matter if it's the nations league, whatever it is, man. If you're gonna go out there with the mentality of, well, it's just a friendly game, so who really cares? Which To be fair, I don't think the players think like that. I wouldn't think they do, but as fans, I think that's a shit mentality to have. You should expect to want to win every single game. no matter what it is, friendly game or not. And to now look at this game, look at these four games, and it's like, well, they were just friendlies. Rafa Marquez is new. some of the new players were getting opportunities. That shit doesn't matter to me. To me, it's like you're going out there, you're playing Chile, you're playing Peru, United States, even doesn't matter. You got to put up a fight. And you are expected to get some sort of a result. Not

Marco: Hey, we read

Project 90 Soccer: a loss.

Marco: we read comments. We read comments. Rem remember

Project 90 Soccer: yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

Marco: the guy that said, Relax, man, Chile lost against Canada. Chile is the words it's been. Look what Chile did to Mexico. What did I say last part? Go tune in. What did I say last part?

Project 90 Soccer: Look on the pod, I put a clip of it on TikTok for that reason.

Marco: What did I say? What does Chile do Anto?

Project 90 Soccer: They work hard, bro. They're not an easy team to beat.

Marco: What did Chile do today?

Project 90 Soccer: They won fair and square, dude. Two to zero. Two to zero, man. With some big names out there for Mexico. We can't just say that they were all new youth, unexperienced players.

Marco: Look, there was a the there was a positive. Me and Pops were talking about it. Padilla potentially can get the number one spot. as as as a goalkeeper. Right?

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, okay, that's fair. Yeah.

Marco: Both goals that he got scored on were not his fault.

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm.

Marco: the first one he tried make make the goal a a little short like the may yeah, it makes a

Project 90 Soccer: Make make himself big, make himself big, yeah.

Marco: big like they say in Mexico, a chicarla porter. He tried, but what happens on Temanton? The ball always goes in between the legs, made it happen.

Project 90 Soccer: The one

Marco: The second

Project 90 Soccer: yeah.

Marco: goal was not his fault. Johan Vasquez trash to react last minute, trash to slide. It it didn't work out for them. He got they got scored on. So but overall, I thought he had a solid performance. Early on in the first half, there was some shaky moments where he was booting the ball up. But how much of that, I was talking to Pops, how much of that is Rafa Marquez and and and committee telling him, don't play with any of the defenders because of what happened last game. Boot the ball up, right? So although

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Get it out of there.

Marco: it can look like a sense of weakness, the guys that are commentating, I'm telling you, that's why I like listening to it in mute sometimes. They were saying, he's nervous with his feet. Nah, he's not nervous with his feet. He can potentially get direction like, hey bro, just get the ball out of here. Just boot it out, no matter where it goes. And he had a couple plays where he played it outside of the 18 and it went to Fidalgo. It went to somebody. It went to a person. Like there were intentional passes. So anybody that tried to shit on him, he had a decent performance. I'm not gonna say good because he didn't have a clean sheet, but it's positive. where he can continue to get called on if he continues to have performance that he has athletic athletic Bill Bow. had I don't see why not why he shouldn't be

Project 90 Soccer: Right.

Marco: the number one goalkeeper for for Mexico because Talar Rangel sure made a case on why he shouldn't.

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, and you know what? he didn't make mistakes tonight like Talar Ranhel did. That's just bottom line, right? He didn't do any bullshit like that. Didn't even didn't make one mistake, let alone two mistakes, right? and and for me, the biggest thing with Mexico is yeah, they need help just about everywhere on the field right now, right? They're struggling. They're really struggling to put it together. But up top, man, we wanted to see Gonzalez. He started. Bernarame was out there. Santi Jimenez has not has not been getting it.

Marco: You

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: saw how

Project 90 Soccer: I know.

Marco: he was chasing the ball? At one

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah, yeah.

Marco: point I thought he was playing center mid and how low he was dropping. Like God,

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: give this guy some play. Stop playing it to the left superterame. And kudos to Berterame. I keep saying don't call him because

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: I don't think he's national type a player that that we need right now because there's other guys. He was trying hard. He was trying to get some through passes, right? he was trying to get some crossover. But there they couldn't create anything from Gonzalez. And shout out to the guy that commented that we need a a nice number ten behind. Yes, we do need a nice number ten that can create some opportunities because right now we don't have.

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. No. And and Hilmora, he's going to change it a little bit. You throw him in there with Eric Lita behind him. I mean, it's it's better, right? That's definitely a better caliber player to have. Chuki Lozano on the wing if he could come back and keep his form. Although he's getting older, right? He's not he's not in his early twenties, mid twenties anymore. so it it's yeah, there are some missing pieces for Mexico that they do have at their disposal. They just weren't available tonight. But still Still with just those players, Mexico still has a big problem. They have a big problem. And they came out of the World Cup riding high, but it's like you keep forgetting. Like you played the FIFA World Cup in the Estadio Azteca. Like the one spot that you have the most unbelievable advantage of all time ever. Like it's not going to happen for another 40 years, probably. So to yeah, you had a good World Cup, but you have to take that into account. That you were literally in the Azteca, right?

Marco: Yeah, yeah. Big, big advantage.

Project 90 Soccer: In the next in the next two years, now the next World Cup, you're not gonna be at home at the Azteca, right? So, yeah, it was great, but you gotta leave it in the past now. It's over, it's done. You're moving forward. Look at the United States. In my opinion, they they got knocked out of the world cup, bro. And they were like, All right, Pochetino said it's time to move on, it's time to rebuild, bring in the new players. Let's get this going. We got to do and Mexico. Yeah, they threw in Rafa Marquez. Brought in a couple of new players. Hillmore is wearing number 10 now, but it it seems like they are lacking in quality. They're lacking in team chemistry. It seems like they as a team, they just do not perform well. And they I I don't I don't even know what it is. If it's a matter, I mean, they have some good players on their team, Fidalgo, like you were saying. I mean, there's some good players on the team. But again, if they can't put it together, get on the field as a team and play and go win and beat a team like Chile, beat a team like Peru. I mean there's there's bigger issues here. You know what I mean? It's a bigger problem.

Marco: But like I mentioned, there was it was a mix back. Mixed back from World Cup players and mixed back from guys that are getting their first opportunities. But still, you're professionals. Make it happen. And it's easier easier

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Marco: said than done. I'm over here on the other side. it's what you call Monday quarterbacking on what should have been, what what

Project 90 Soccer: That's what it's what yeah, it's what we do.

Marco: what could have happened. I've never been in the world stage, right? My career ended i in JUCO, you know. But it's just as a viewer, it's it's what you see and things don't work. I'm giving Rafa Rafa Marquez benefit of the doubt that he's trying new guys, but I'm also understand that the Federation, Mexico Federation, is is is kinda corrupt. It's like, hey, I need you to take these guys and I need you to give

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah.

Marco: these guys your amount of playing time. And Tel Arrangel needs to start because he's Chivas and you need to call this America of players because America owns basically basically the league type stuff.

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm.

Marco: So I know that that happens behind the scenes, but at certain point, even if that happens, like you still need to perform. You're still getting paid millions of dollars because these guys get played in dollars, paid in dollars to perform. And they

Project 90 Soccer: Yeah. Yeah.

Marco: laid an egg all four games. The only one game that I can say, okay, I'm cool with the one one was against Colombia. outside of that Embarrassing against USA, embarrassing against Peru, and embarrassing against Chile. Anytime you play in the United States, it's a it's basically you're playing home at advantage, you're playing at home.

Project 90 Soccer: In LA, especially. I mean, it's yeah. And you know, like you're saying with Run Hell, let's say he's with Chiva Us and they you gotta play him because he's part of Chiva Us, whatever it is. That I mean, he's still a professional goalkeeper in the top flight in Mexico. That does not excuse two mistakes that you make like that. That doesn't excuse that. You you know what I mean? At the end of the day, like you were saying, we're Monday quarterbacks, whatever they call it. These guys are professional athletes at the tighest at the highest level. So, yes, the expectation is a lot higher for them, they're there for a reason. And if they don't perform, you you you're gonna get criticism regardless of who you are,

Marco: Yeah.

Project 90 Soccer: where you play. It doesn't matter. You're a professional athlete, this is your job. And if you don't do your job good, whether you're a plumber, whether you're a fucking the garbage man, whatever, electrician,

Marco: Electrician.

Project 90 Soccer: like mm-hmm. It doesn't matter, dude. If you don't do your job, you're gonna get criticized, bro. You're gonna get shit, you're gonna get fired. Like that's what happens. So, man, my hope for Mexico is Marquez. They go to the drawing board, guardado, everybody. And they really just they need to put a plan together, bro. They need to figure it out because the Nations League's approaching and there are trophies and titles on the line, man. So that's it, man. Just wanted to cover this game real quick. Mexico losing to Chile two zero. Not the greatest camp for Mexico. Marco, any last words for the audience before we sign off?

Marco: Like, subscribe. We're loving all the comments. Appreciate

Project 90 Soccer: Yes.

Marco: so all the users, the subscribers that have been subscribing, the numbers upticking. And I said when we hit 50 subscribers, we're gonna take a shot

Marco: of this beautiful tequila soccer bar from the world cup. So I just gotta make it to the studio. I just gotta make it to the studio

Project 90 Soccer: We're gonna do it. Mm-hmm.

Marco: where this guy, Project 90, look at that studio behind that perfection studio, and we gotta take a shot, but maybe we'll do it on the road when we go watch. Sac Republic USL game, and then we just insert the

Project 90 Soccer: Yep.

Marco: clip somewhere around here in this universe because our engineer Anto knows how to make things happen. But the

Project 90 Soccer: Mm-hmm. Yep.

Marco: only thing I'm liking about the selection mexicana, red, white, and green and gold, is this because whatever they did on their end, nah. So, you know

Project 90 Soccer: Nah.

Marco: what? I'm gonna go, I'm gonna smoke a J. I'm gonna have more tequila and then.

Project 90 Soccer: And check out

Marco: And then my lady's gonna have to answer to me. Botta go putting some work.

Project 90 Soccer: Marco Antonio Munoz. Look, guys, we did say at 50 subs, we're going to take a shot. Problem is we didn't just hit 50 subs. We got like 20 subscribers from one video.
